You see them everywhere—striking images of sportsmen and women engaged in a variety of outdoor activities, from relaxing recreational pursuits, to today’s extreme sports—in high-profile advertising, calendars, posters and websites. Capturing the action for these professional commercial images—whether a slow moving canoeist on a mirrored lake or a hard-charging mountain biker careening down a gravel slope—is usually not left to chance. Instead, the
Action and adventure sport photography is all about timing. It’s about being at the right place at the right time, getting in close, and with good angles, to catch the subjects at the top of their game—and that’s what our Action & Adventure Sports shoot is all about! The western town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, provides the scenic backdrop for five days of inspired photography covering a broad spectrum of outdoor sports photography. From action-packed whitewater rafting and kayaking on impressive rapids, paragliding, mountain biking and equestrian field events to more quiet pursuits like rock
We’ve hired numerous athletes—all model-released—to perform in their sport specialties in front of our cameras. Our photo leader, both a renowned photographer as well as a professional mountain guide, also has extensive experience in kayaking and canoeing. His vast knowledge will help direct the placement and route of the models, and help you become familiar with each sport to be able to capture the essence of the moment, both the predictable as well as the unpredictable. Whether freezing the action with high shutter speeds or blurring the image with slow-shutter pans to accentuate speed and movement, our models will provide exceptional photo opportunities throughout our stay. At our shoots you’ll get very easy access to photogenic situations that look like it took a mountain goat to achieve! This shoot is ideal for professionals who want to quickly build their “lifestyle” or “sports” image portfolio, or for any photographer who is tempted to “learn the ropes” of active sports photography performed in dazzling natural surroundings. Day 1 (Jun 8) Participants fly to Jackson, Wyoming and transfer independently to our hotel. We meet for dinner this evening. (D)
From our comfortable hotel base we will make numerous excursions around the Jackson environs utilizing several scenic areas along the Snake River for our action photography. We will try to keep as flexible a schedule as possible to photograph each action specialty under the best possible conditions. Our evening rodeo shoot should produce a number of exciting images (not model released due to the large number of competitors). One midday or late evening will be spent on a Jackson Hole photo gallery walk for intensive compositional study of some of its famous resident photographers. (BLD) Day 7 (Jun 14) Depart at any time today. |
