Rosemary Calvert lives in the UK and has worked as a professional
landscape, nature and travel photographer for eight years. Her images are
marketed through photo agencies worldwide and are used in many ways from advertising to calendars.
Her work has been commended several times in the
UK Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and exhibited in London's Natural
History Museum. Rosemary also writes technical articles for UK photo
magazines and is a Fellow of both the Royal Photographic Society and the Royal
Geographical Society.
Rosemary first joined a Photo Safaris tour in 1989 while living in Canada. At the
time, she was an amateur photographer and president of the Foothills Camera
Club in Calgary. On a winter trip to Yellowstone she was inspired by John Shaw
and her interest in photography went from strength to strength. Since then she
has joined numerous Photo Safaris, including trips to photograph grizzly bears and
nature in Katmai and Denali National Parks in Alaska, polar bears in Churchill, and
landscapes in Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina.
In November 2004 she traveled with us to photograph emperor penguins in Antarctica's
Weddell Sea. We are delighted to feature a sampling of her images from this cruise.
Recently Rosemary began shooting digitally. She uses a Canon EOS 1DS
and is about to invest in a Canon EOS 1DS Mark 2. She took film cameras as
backup on the 2004 Antarctica trip, but wants to travel only with digital equipment
on her forthcoming Photo Safari to Spitsbergen in June 2005, where she will be
photographing polar bears.
In 2006 Rosemary looks forward to joining two more Photo Safaris. She will
spend a month visiting the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctic Peninsula
in February and the Galápagos in May. You can see more of Rosemary's work—including
