Fred Allen's love of photography dates back to his childhood days in grammar school. "I had a black and white darkroom and I've always loved photography." While he cringes when thinking back on his early photographs, both his photography skills and his passion for the medium have increased considerably since retiring in 1995. "It was only after I didn't have to travel for work anymore that I decided to pursue my first love and spend quality time behind the camera," Fred explains.

While Fred may regard himself as a "serious amateur" or "semi-pro" photographer, judging by the images he's shared with us, his work rivals many professionals. Whatever his status as a photographer may be, he simply enjoys any opportunity to get out and shoot.

"I love the camaraderie of fellow photographers and the opportunity to learn from others," he claims. "I like to be able to go on at least one photo trip per year." He has traveled on Photo Safaris to Yellowstone, Atchafalya Basin, India and East Africa.

In addition to wildlife and nature, Fred enjoys photographing sports, local theater and dance companies, church and Rotary Club activities, travel and an occasional wedding. He has been published in Adirondack Life and local newspaper.

Now living in Santa Barbara, California, Fred is retired both from the banking industry and as a Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He is married with four children and one grandchild.
