Following a trip to Alaska in 1987, Don bought a fancy
point-and-shoot camera and took a photo class to understand how it worked. He
soon graduated to an SLR, took more classes and eventually joined photo clubs
which introduced him to the world of photo competition.
After a photographically disappointing trip to Australia, he
sought out a real photo trip which led him to Joseph Van Os Photo Safaris.
Along with his wife Del, Dons first Photo Safari took him to photograph the
polar bears of Churchill in 1989. Since then they have traveled extensively
with JVOPS, traveling at least twice to each continent.
Over the years, Don has received international awards and recognition
for many of his photographs. Additionally, he has ranked #1 in P.S.A.s Nature
Photography in North America competition.
During his continuous quest to capture the magic of nature
on film, Don and Del have experienced many memorable moments in their travels.
Some of their favorite photo journeys have been those to Nunivak Island,
Antarctica, Japan and a trip to China to photograph pandas.
As owner of a manufacturing company, Dons time is both
limited and valuable and so he often relies on Joseph Van Os Photo Safaris
to take care of his photo travel needs. He recently sold his business and hopes
to make photography more than a hobby. He enjoys showing photos from his trips
and looks forward with great anticipation to more travels with Joseph Van Os
Photo Safaris.
